Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
