The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
